All rules for Autogespot listed

Autogespot is a huge site and continues to grow constantly. There are rules associated with uploading spots.

As of March 16, 2025, the following rules apply to uploading a spot:
Artificial Intelligence-generated photos The answer is obvious. AI-generated photos are not allowed on Autogespot.

Camping spots
As of January 1, 2019, we no longer accept so-called camping spots. Camping spots are spots where spotters set up their camping chairs in a busy location and photograph dozens to hundreds of cars on their way to an event. An example of this is the hundreds of Supercar Sunday spots along the highway. You can find the full explanation in this article.

Circuit
Photos taken on or near a circuit are not accepted. This includes the parking lot of a circuit. This also applies to access roads. During major events, there is a general ban on uploading spots taken on access roads and within the town itself during the day. Different rules apply for spotting around the Nürburgring. See below under 'Nürburg Rule'.

Dealer/Car Company
We do not accept spots taken on the premises of a dealer or car-related business. This also applies to wrappers, detailing companies, auto parts stores, and tuners. Visitors parking their Ferrari at the Renault dealer also fall under this rule. As do spots taken within 100 meters of a dealer. Please do not attempt to upload such spots either; in most cases, we will find out anyway that it is not a real 'spot'. In Maranello, we no longer accept brand-new Ferraris with factory license plates and rental cars, just as we do not accept Lamborghinis with factory license plates in Sant'Agata Bolognese. With this, we want to prevent dozens of Ferraris being uploaded with some protective tape, which have just rolled off the assembly line brand new. Spy spots with factory license plates are, of course, allowed. These do not count towards the SVDD either.

Duplicate
You have uploaded this car before. You may only have each unique car listed on the site once.

Private property
You suddenly see a Ferrari F430 standing behind a fence on a farm. We regularly see spots where photos have been taken through fences or hedges, or where a fence has been climbed over. That is not the intention. Just like photographing from a distance. Also, if the owner contacts us and reports that a spot has been uploaded on their property without their permission, it will be removed. Therefore, always ask permission from the owner/manager of the site to prevent your spot from disappearing from the site.

Event
Spots at events/meetings or on direct access roads are not accepted. It is therefore pointless to set up your camping chair on the access road to the circuit during Supercar Sunday in Assen. You can, however, send them to frontpage@autogespot.nl. The photos may then be included in a Front Page article. We reserve the right at all times to remove these spots if we believe they constitute camping behavior. For Zandvoort, it is not permitted to upload spots from a day when an event was taking place. The event calendar is available on the site.

Photos
Photos must always be taken by yourself. Uploading photos of friends/family/casual acquaintances is not permitted. After all, we cannot verify whether you actually received permission to use these photos.

Quality
It is sometimes difficult to take good photos of a spot. A minimum of five photos per spot applies. The fifth photo may not be a crop of previous photos and may not be virtually identical to the first four photos. Remember while spotting that you can upload up to ten photos per spot. So try to take ten photos if circumstances allow. However, ensure that the photos are somewhat varied. Details, side view, front, back, and any other position you can think of. Sometimes we are flexible with this rule, for example when it concerns a new type. Try to make the best of it, whatever the circumstances. Judge for yourself first whether the quality is good enough. Do you not have a photo of the back in a parking garage? Then that doesn't really add anything.

For large cities/places with a lot of spots, we have the big cities policy. Since there are more fancy cars driving around there, we won't settle for just a snapshot of the front and back of a car. We expect you to take and upload many beautiful photos. We receive hundreds of submissions every day, so we don't want someone with mediocre photos to get a star instead of someone who put a lot of effort into their pictures. Additionally, we don't find it relaxing when you are in the middle of the road in a big city. License Plate
Has your spot been removed under 'license plate'? Then you haven't entered a license plate, even though the car actually has one. You can re-upload your spot with a completed license plate.

Want to know how to enter specific license plates from different countries? Then click here.

Fake
You uploaded a BMW M5, but it turns out to be a 530d. Or your Carrera S is a standard Carrera 2. In that case, your spot has been removed under 'fake'. Just like replicas. We do accept replicas of the AC Cobra, Ford GT40, and Porsche 550 Speedster.

Not worthy of spotting
We are the ones who decide whether a car is accepted on our site. Have you spotted a car and it isn't on the site? Then it will most likely not be accepted. Unless you spotted some new supercar that has just been released. Then please send an email to feedback@autogespot.com. We will then decide whether you can upload the spot. If we decide that a car is not spot-worthy, the spot will be removed. We regularly remove a model because we no longer find it interesting, or because there are all kinds of new versions of it, or because the car is uploaded far too often.

Nürburg Rule
There is an exception to the circuit rule. The Nürburgring has some privileges. You ARE allowed to upload spots from this environment. However, we do not accept spots from these locations:

- The circuit itself.
- Entrance at Breidscheid in Adenau.
- Entrance/parking of the Nordschleife, including the roundabout in front of the main entrance to the Nordschleife in Nürburg.
- Paddock GP-Strecke in Nürburg.
- Gewerbegebiet Meuspath (with the exception of Spyshots)

Since uploading spots at the Nürburgring is a privilege and not a right, we may remove spots under the Nürburg Rule if we do not find them interesting. Please also note that there are many events at the Ring. To clear up any confusion regarding events, you may no longer upload spots if there is a car, motorcycle, or truck event on that day. Spotting during the VLN, one-day events, and Good Friday is also no longer permitted. You can find the event calendar on this page. Spots at events/meetings or on direct access roads are not accepted. This applies to all major access roads to the Nürburgring. Camping right in front of Nürburg/Adenau is therefore pointless, as the rules apply to Nürburg, Adenau, and all surrounding villages, such as Müllenbach, Herschbroich, Barweiler, Kempenich, Quiddelbach, Meuspath, Drees, and Welcherath. This also applies to the B258 and B257 leading to the A61 and A1. All kinds of 'volume cars' are no longer accepted at the Ring. Regarding BMWs, we no longer accept the following types: all M2, M3, and M4. Furthermore, the following are not accepted: all Ford Focus RSs, all Lotus Exige and Elise models, and all Lancer Evolutions. At Porsche, we reject all 997/991/992 Carrera/Targa/GT3/RS, and all Boxsters/Caymans.

Re-upload
You reported your spot under this category yourself because you want to upload different/better photos. It is also possible that we remove your spot under this category, for example, because something went wrong during the processing of your photos. If your spot has been removed under 're-upload', then you may indeed re-upload it. Your spot may be removed because your first photo is a bait photo for another car, or because the car in question is nowhere/hardly visible. We would like to see the car in question in photo 1. You may upload those photos in a different location than as the first photo. Projects/edits where you have been creative in Photoshop may be omitted. By this, we mean that you have edited your photos to such an extent that they are hardly realistic anymore. For both bait photos and Photoshop projects, the following applies: we can remove spots entirely or only the relevant photos. Usually, the latter is chosen.

At owner's request
If your spot is removed for this reason, the owner has indicated that they do not want their car to appear on Autogespot. Therefore, you should not re-upload the spot without a license plate, or enter a different license plate in the upload screen to circumvent the message 'the owner does not want their car to appear on Autogespot'. Show respect.

Old model
For example, you have uploaded a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S. Unfortunately, we no longer accept those. If you have uploaded an old model of a car that we no longer accept, your spot will be removed under 'old model'.

Place Name
We would like you to enter the correct place name when uploading your spot. Always choose the name of the village/city/town that is closest. For spots on the highway, the rule is: choose the place that is closest. We do not recognize places like 'Autobahn', 'Snelweg', 'Autostrada', and 'Somewhere near Rotterdam', but we do recognize 'Highway' and 'Rotterdam'. Are you going to America or Canada? Great! Then, in addition to the place name, enter the state as well. Everyone does this, because then we know which state you have been to. After all, some places are located in multiple states.

Highway Spot
To restore variety in spots and to accommodate visitors, we will be limiting the daily mountain of highway spots starting January 11, 2022.
- We will enforce quality even more strictly. This means that there must be at least three angles (front, side, back).

- A checkbox system applies. This means you must tick the box indicating that it is a highway spot. If you do not tick the box or 'forget' to do so intentionally, you will receive a seven-day ban. If it is intentionally forgotten a few more times after that, other sanctions may follow.

- A maximum of five highway spots per day per spotter applies. This is not per country, but total.

If the spot does not meet these requirements, we will remove the spot and you may not upload it again. What is considered a highway spot? Naturally, anything on highways/motorways, but also major thoroughfares. Such as B-roads in Germany or N-roads. Also, for example, six-lane highways in/around cities, whether abroad or not. Ultimately, we are the final judges of whether the quality of the spot is sufficient. We will not discuss that. If we do not consider your highway spot to be of good quality, we will remove your spot.

How do you upload a spot?
When you upload a spot, you will arrive at the screen below. We explain what needs to be filled in for each field.

License plate
Here you enter the license plate of the spotted car. If the car does not have a license plate, or if the license plate is not readable, then check 'License plate not readable' and you do not need to enter anything here. You may also receive a message on your screen after entering a license plate. With the message "the owner has indicated that they do not want spots of their car on Autogespot. It is therefore unfortunately not possible to upload this", you cannot proceed with uploading. The owner does not want this car on the site. Did you not enter a license plate for some unknown reason and skip this field? Then you can re-upload your spot.

All brands
In this box, you can enter the brand of the spotted car. If the license plate is already known to Autogespot, the make and model will appear automatically. If the make and model that appear are incorrect, you can always adjust them.

All types
Here, if Autogespot hasn't already done so, enter the type of the spotted car. If you don't know which type you spotted, compare the most obvious models and choose the best one. If the type you spotted has never been spotted before, check 'type not found' and enter the (in your opinion) correct type.

All countries
The country where you spotted the car.

Location
The location where you spotted the car. Not directly in a town? Then enter the place closest to it.

Select a color
Click here on the color that most closely resembles that of the spotted car. If the car is 'matte' or 'chrome', check that option. You can also check both options.

YouTube Video
Here you can enter a link to a self-made YouTube video of the spotted car.

Describe your spot here
Not a mandatory section. If you experienced something cool while spotting the car in question, you can enter it in this box.

This is a spyspot
'Spyspot' is a term for a car that the manufacturer is currently testing. These are cars that have not yet been presented to the public, and they often feature camouflage so that some lines are difficult to recognize. Have you spotted such a car? Then check this option.

Do not allow comments on this spot
If, for whatever reason, you prefer not to receive comments on your spot, you can check this option.

Drag your photos here
Select your photos here. Minimum 2560 pixels wide and maximum 5 MB in size. If you do not meet these requirements, the photos will not load properly, and the spot will either not appear on the site or be deleted.

Everything successful? Then click on 'Upload spot.' Your spot will appear on the site within a few minutes!

Then some other things you should know:
Once your spot has been deleted, you should receive an email with an explanation. Do not try to re-upload a deleted spot fourteen times; instead, send us an email if you have not received an automatic email. Autogespot reserves the right to remove a spot at any time, even if it does not fall under one of the rules above. Questions about spots? This is the only correct email address: feedback@autogespot.com. We do not discuss other spotters. Did you not receive an answer within five minutes? Then do not email your question again. We are probably busy with other matters at that moment.

Keep hateful comments, dirty photos, or other nonsense to yourself. Autogespot is not the place for that. Stay friendly and treat everyone with respect, just as they show respect towards you. If we find that you are behaving antisocially, we may deny you access to our website. Send tips and questions about articles on the front page to frontpage@autogespot.com. Questions about advertising, merchandise, the shirt for a Spot of the Day victory, etc., can be sent to info@autogespot.com.

The 'report spot' button can be found among the spot details of a spot. Is something wrong with the spot you are looking at? Has the spotter violated one of the rules or entered the wrong type? Then be sure to click the 'report button' and report what is wrong. Do not misuse this button. All reported spots are reviewed by us. Therefore, it makes no sense to report your competitor's spots for fun under all sorts of nonsensical reasons. As soon as you are reporting too many spots incorrectly, there will be consequences.
